I’m Leah Verstraete, and I am a Registered Dental Hygienist and the Owner of Smile Blanc.

My passion for dental hygiene began with my enjoyment of visiting the dentist as a child, but I never thought my career path would be rooted in something so simple. In 2010, I attended the Toronto College of Dental Hygiene and Auxiliaries. I vividly remember being a fresh High School graduate, crying at the airport as I left home to attend school, and embarking on a journey towards a goal that seemed almost unattainable at the time. I often look back at this time in my life as a reminder of how far I have come – from a young 18-year-old with fears about the future, to 10 years later, opening my first hygiene location, Smile Blanc.

My time at school taught me patient compassion; one of my favourite memories was cleaning the teeth of people faced with homelessness. This experience provided me with Smile Blanc’s guiding principles: to always treat people with kindness, empathy and dignity. Our clinic focuses on helping patients feel comfortable with their services.

Smile Blanc was first conceptualized when I found myself becoming interested in the natural side of teeth whitening. The clinic I was working with at the time did not provide teeth whitening services to patients, and I took the initiative to pitch the idea of after-hours whitening services. Driven by my motivation to deliver an exceptional teeth whitening experience, we saw a significant increase of over 200 patients. This demand made me realize the needs of the services I could provide, and the potential of a privatized dental hygiene clinic.
